Dear friends …..

Been such a long time … Well, I’ve been terribly busy these 2 months and still continuing I guess … and the worst part … I fell ill 🙂 But it’s ok now!

These past 2 months, I have to go here and there and almost everywhere around Surabaya … West to the East and hitherto … Pheww!!! Yeah, one of us got resigned and I had to replace her.

It was not an easy task to do especially due to the feeling not being trusted and even accepted by several … But what shall I do? I have to move on though it finally made me ill previously.

The other problem that made it worse is that realising the changes that I found in IGCSE (thank God after re-reading, some are still the same so I decided to use old syllabus by adding some new materials. However, it didn’t stop there … I had to hit another wall. Yeah, we were asked to revise the syllabus and LP totally following the new input – character building, life skill – and KTSP. While our own materials were so badly copied previously that I had to edit and even find new ones.

How much time do I have??? up till the new school year … Thinking that makes me crazy …

Finally this February, I managed to revise and edit several materials … but now, I have to stop.

I need to prepare the syllabus … Why? Why? Why?

Well, it wasn’t well made previously, we only got the copies. Now, after getting it all, I need to revise it. Who could help me??? Everybody is so busy. Hikz3x

Well, at the moment, I have accomplished 70% of it but still incomplete … Still so far to go!!!

May God bless us all 🙂

Dear friends,

Did I get up on the wrong foot today???

Everything seems jumbled up and I’m waiting what will happen next …

The sun shines just like other ordinary days but things get so crazy.

The first time I entered the class for morning devotion … It was so quiet and we had to wait for other students to arrive. After waiting, I had to lower down my emotion a bit noticing that the student who was supposed to lead, forgot to bring the book. Soon, while I was planning to read something from the Bible, she said she would read something form the July’s morning devotion book. In the end, I told my class that I hate this irresponsible attitude and hope that they would change.

When the bell rang telling me to start my lesson, I went to the class on the second floor. Yup it was quiet too but some of the students were called by other teacher. While I was writing on the whiteboard (groups’ names for debate), they kept on saying that the speech hadn’t finished yet. I finally explained that the debate was for their test and not today.

After writing, I started calling the students name and the one making me so upset was that they weren’t well prepared. So, many of them kept on asking other students. It drove me mad that finally I chose to change the materials into listening.

Listening activity gained other troubles. Yup, the were wasting the time by keeping on excusing removing their answers that I finally burst out counting 1 to 5. Correcting became other problems. In IGCSE, we were asked to be exact and concise. However, sometimes I felt pity if I had to wrong most of their answers which are too many words or to short. Mostly, I gave them half score. Today, while giving half score, many kept arguing to get full score. I was so upset that I decided to give the haf score to no score as the IGCSE.

Finally, I left the class but so undoubtedly not in a nice mood.

Soon, spending the time writing this blog and read yours. One blog always caught my eyes but now it has ended maybe.

Good Luck Guys!!!

Dear friends,

Previously, I attended a seminar held by Binus and in the beginning part we discussed about types of teacher. Well, I would like to share the several things we did but I left my handout so, I’ll continue later on …

Dear friends,

Sometimes I think a lot about “Why do I become a teacher? Why can’t I just go on with my mom’s wish? etc”

Yup, this kinda thinking strike people’s mind almost all the time.

Is it because we never feel satisfied with anything?

Well, I don’t know whether it is the reason and it makes me tired just thinking about it.

Being a teacher is not an easy task. There are certain things you have to remember; they are:

1. becoming a role model (having flaws in their eyes will ruin their perfect model)

2. you can’t judge your students (for your judgement will also be measured on you-Bible)

3. you have to be able to explain clearly (so the students will understand your materials)

4. you have to be strict (caregiver – not simply having fun)

5. you have to correct hundreds of papers as soon as you can (for they’ll keep asking where’re their works, comments, and the scores)

6. on the report day (sometimes working day for problematic students) we need to meet their parents – listening to complaints and suggestions

7. and still many others.

Being a teacher is not always bad. One of the greatest side is when your students become successfull and they managed to recognize you and feel grateful having a teacher like you.

Yeah, being a teacher feels tiring and burdening. However, there’s one verse that makes me relieve and gain a lot of spirit when I teach. It says

“I choose you to be here … Not you who choose Me”

Yeah, let’s do our activities just to glorify His name!!!

PS: next will be about the ideal teacher!!!

Dear friends,

What do you have in mind if we talk about debate?

Well, in our daily life, we could easily find it (you can say at anytime and anywhere). What about debate competition? Hmm … mostly you’ll find it in English competitions.

If we talk about debate competition, we have plenty of rules but one thing for sure; for me it’s fun and challenging.

As mentioned, English competition usually deals with debate; therefore, I teach my students about debate and the rules as early as possible the X grade in the 2nd semester.

It turned out to be useful 🙂

Last Saturday, I sent a group of three (X graders)to join English Competition at UNAIR (Medical). Even though the competitors were mostly the XI graders, my students managed to be the champion.

I accompanied them since 6.30 in the morning till late 8.30 in the evening.

Such a long and tiring day but it worthed my day!

The semifinal and final were created as debate competition. When the committee asked the 4 chiefs of the group whether they knew and could do a debate; my student said “Yes, we know it coz we’ve learnt it!”

That statement amazed the other students because they daid not know a thing and they did not learn it before even though they were XI graders.

I do realized that my students were far from perfect. For me it was just “gambling moment”; however, my student here is a really terrific leader. He said “we’ll leave it all to God and pray, shall we!” and I noticed that being there as the semifinalist was all thanks to God. My students were the youngest but they have learnt more and we should be gratefull about it.

Finally, they really became the winner!!!

It’s all because of the Lord and my students greatest efforts. Thank you all!!!

I might share about debate and the rules next time!!!

Cheers 🙂
